well, i finaly got it !!! a second-hand radius 3 turntable - i need to clean the dust, adjust feet and cables and calibrate needle and level-feet... for 450€ without cartridge Elys2 from inicial 550€ pack (since i got ortofon M2 red) im happy with my purchase! But there is need of repairs!!! To change the cracked power-box and put a new belt... all solvable so i´m confident of a fine TT soon!

It should look like this pic, the seller sent me...

but i got it delivered in the bellow state... no duster, no enrolled cables, no bag Rolling Eyes Anyways, it works 100% so i´m 100% happy - Here are pics of the poor fellow who just arrived in my humble house 1H00 ago... welcome!!!

    so my questions are:

    - where do i get a manual of radius 3 (paper or pdf)?
    - is it possible to disassemble it by layers to clean dust?
    - which front commuter is to switch from 33 to 45 rpm?
    - what are the 3 knobs on the base of radius 3?
    - any power-box spare to replace my cracked one?

thanks in advance for any tips and insight on this vintage TT Wink

hi there, i cant help with the tech questions much but if i remember the radius splits like a Xerxes into two halves. i think it sits on "blobs" but if you go to the link below + register i think its all there..1 more thing. the headshell looks "bent" on the close up? is it just camera angle? Confused

heres the final result after wash and calibration... not bad for an oldie Wink sunds good but it needs a new belt so the sound sometimes gets wooblie dueto the lack of strengh from old belt to pull the heavy plate!

That's a nice system you are building there Soundzen. Looking at the photo of your cleaned-up Radius I think you may need to adjust the arm position. When the arm is not in use it should be located closer to the platter rather than the outside of the deck - check the set-up for the Artemiz which can be downloaded from this site as the Tabriz is similar. If you leave it where it is in the picture then the bias setting will be too high as the arm approaches the centre of the record and this will affect the sound quality.

got it! thanks for great tip... the closer i get it to the plate at start point, the further the arm will go inside the lp without draging its needle across the tracks Wink

the last pic shows my MM cartridge Ortofon M2 Red, simply standing loose on top of my TT Pro-ject Genie RPM1 arm - i cannot see nothing bended, if you care to save the pic and with paint shop pro do a circle around the bending area, so that i can correct it on my Tabriz arm - thx Davie Wink

well, the problem doesnt come from the belt nor does it need to be changed... still the belt slides up and does a terrible friction against the metal vinil plate.

its something about the leveling of the rotor (little wheel) which propels the belt to the top of its own axel, trying to level up to the mini plate (big wheel)... i´ve noticed that the lower the mini-plate is, the less the rotor has the need to push up the belt but still ive taken all the rings that were under the mini-plate and still i need to either:

    - push the mini-plate lower for it to be aligned with the rotor,
    - carve a "canal" in the skirt of the mini-plate so that the belt stays in its lower position, on rotation.

Does the knobs of the 3 feet has to do with it also? if i unscrew them the upper wood-base of the turntable´s sandwich will go up, due to the vibropods located in the middle of the 2 boards, right?

heres a terrible sketch... i can listen to vinil but the out-of-track belt tires the rotor and gives a terrible hizzzzz sound at the same time! im give it to a turntable technician here, to have a look at my radius 3 Wink

    Hi Soundzen

I'm not very familiar with the radius 3 but based on experience with the original Xerxes the set up of the motor relative to the inner (smaller) platter should be similar. The height of the inner platter should be adjusted so that when the turntable is fully assembled the belt should ride roughly around the centre of the motor pulley and the belt should be perfectly horizontal when viewed from the side. If the inner platter is set too high then either the belt will slip off the bottom or else it will lift off the pulley. If the inner platter is set too low then the belt will rub against the underside of the main platter and possibly there will be contact between the underside of the main platter and the top of the motor pulley.

Sounds like your inner platter is set too low so you need to raise it. On the original Xerxes, the level of the inner platter could be adjusted by raising the top plate which may also be the case with the Radius 3. On the Xerxes this was done by adjusting the bolts on the suspension blobs using an allen key. It looks like you have discovered how to do this already on your Radius 3 so give it a go.

Remember that when you replace the main platter the suspension will go down slightly so bear this in mind. Again, the Xerxes manual on this website might give you a better idea than I am able to explain. Good luck and hope you get it running sweetly soon.
