OK, so once again, I didn't go, but I know some of you guys did.
What was it like? Anything new and good or surprising?
Also, did the new Caspian Platinums get a viewing, or even a hearing?
What did the Caspian 'speakers sound like?

Overall I thought it was a good show, Henley designs had three rooms. The first I visited had the new Project RPM10X sat upon a stack of Roksan amplifiers with a pair of speakers either side.
A nice tidy package, nicely balanced. I stood there admiring the sound and the henley rep walked up and said "you won't hear much better than that" he said, I replied "I have a Roksan TMS2", he said " I will shut up then!" not the best of starts. I noticed a new isolation platform sat underneath the Project which is available from Project.
I asked one or two questions which the Henley rep couldn't answer and he sent me to their second room. This time they had a caspian CD player, again the new project TT, not sure what the amps were but they were not as good as the Roksans in room one and again running into the FR-5's. This system didn't have the dynamic range of the first room and to me was a little flat but that was consistent with many of the contributors there. Room factors at hi-fi shows play a bigger part than the systems.
The third Roksan room was in the big Marlborough suite in the Renaisance hotel. There they had the Xerxes 20 being used with the new Caspian Platinum M-series, see "whats new" on the Roksan home page. Now we are talking real Roksan, this system gelled very nicely, plenty of detail from the Xerxes and plenty of power from the caspians. Although they were hamperred by the sheer size of the demo room you could hear the potential of the Roksan system.
I met Touraj for the first time and we had a long confideential chat about one or two things and I got to see some of the Roksan deck naked on a display stand. I have photo's which I will be posting shortly,
regards

Now where were my manners
It was a pleasure to meet Henley designs at the show, who looked completely gone out at me when I asked a question about the release date for a certain product

Thanx for the pix, Nigel: taken with the Nikon? Look good 'n' sharp, to my eyes, anyway!
Will need to investigate the new amps further, methinks... _________________ Believe what you will, this is MY truth... |
