I know its not original, but it is my first post. Anyone have any thoughts on a better cable to connect a pair of original Epos 14's to a Caspian amp. I am currently using Naim NAC 4 from a previous system. I could do with a little more at the top and bottom? Alternative speakers have been another thought.
FWIW rest of system apart from Caspian amplification and Epos output is DP1 with DAC and DS4 for CD and Xerxes X, Artemiz and Ortofon MC25FL for the black stuff.

    Hi and thanks Vince HL

Hi Vince and welcome to the forum.

The original Epos 14 was designed to be used of a Naim 250 power amp and therefore you may ind that your Caspian amp isn't getting the best out of your speakers.

Start by trying different speaker cables, I would recommend Chord Epic as a start, this will give you more at the frequency extremes but you may find long term a better amp will be the answer,

    Regards

    PB

Yes I remember reading same in the past. Problem being that with one son at Uni, another wanting to do the same in a couple of years time (I thought they were supposed to leave home, become independant and cost less) and wife saying that we havn't had a family holiday for three years big amps are a no no. Most of the system has been upgraded and/or bought 2nd hand as and when funds available (house sale/move). So the alternative (if I am to avoid conflict with bank manager/wife/law) would be more efficient/modern speakers, any thoughts for abudget of a max of around £500 and a room size 4m x 5.5m (new or 2nd hand).
Music predominantly rock Zep,Yes through to The Answer with bits of Tori Amos and the likes thrown in.

Perfect for you and a lot easier to drive than the 14's,

Sorry PB but what a load of crapola. Caspian is a similarly warmly balanced amplifier with better bass control ,similar authority & equal or better resolution than the NAP250 of the time .

By extension of your reasoning, neither would a current production NAP250 (or for that matter, a NAP500) "get the best" out of the ES14 as the 250 has undergone a fairly dramatic voicing change over the years.

I'd say that his Caspian should work a treat with a little fine tuning and cable matching.

I'd suggest trying NVA's high value LS3's or possibly Roksan's own speaker cables for gains in performance and musical insight.

    best,
    k

Point taken ken, I was refereing to the original reviews of the Epos 14's.

I certainly think Vince should try some different speaker cable first and if that doesn't work either look at the speakers or amp as something is clearly not working.

Roksan cables are excellent, I use some of their IC's with my Xerxes,

    Regards
