| Quote: | Dear Mr. Touraj Moghaddam:
my name is alexandra aoustin, im french and i live in Portugal - as a 35YO tomboy with a hobbie for high-tech and hi-fi, i´m the proud owner of a brand new duo roksan Kandy K2 (cd+amp) system, after selling my previous amp roksan Kandy MKIII.
since then i´m on a quest to set up a 100% roksan system (waiting to find a pair of roksan K2 bookshelf speakers) so last week i bought roksan HDC-01A interconnects and a pair of 015 speaker-cables... but my cherry on the Kandy (i meant: cake) is a second-hand turntable radius 3 which i send bellow the picture links - unfortunately it needs repairs.
I joined the roksan UK forum and got great feedback and help from the members - specially from member PolarBear which advised me to contact you by e-mail and ask the following:
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff158/soundzen/roksan19.jpg
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff158/soundzen/DSC05176.jpg
could i buy from you a new radius 3 belt (which to me looks a lot like the Xerxes model but im not a specialist like yourself) as well as a new power box ROK-DS2 is in poor condition (mine came all cracked-up and is holding-on thanks to tape) as you can sadly see bellow?

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff158/soundzen/arranjo.jpg

I´ve tried to look it up on eBay stores and Delaudio resellers here in Portugal, but they only sell components, it seems... please let me know in which European store i can purchase such articles so that i can enjoy my radius 3 TT.
So nice to talk to you and specially to hear from you soon, because i cannot thank you enough for being so creative and talented on building such a fine brand of hi-fi... i simply love that British smooth, calm and sweet sound of the Kandy series!
Truly yours,
alexandra aoustin

can someone with a TT xerxes could confirm id the flatten belt lenght is aproximatly 28cm and a width of 0.5 cm --- in british that would be 11 inch lenght / width 0.19 inch!
im asking this because when i mention radius 3 the salers only find radius 5 parts but they have xerxes ones... maybe its compatible??? _________________ Roksan K2 amp / Atlas equador superior IC / Roksan K2 cd / Roksan TR5 speakers / Qed silver anniversary XT cables / Rega P3 turntable / Roksan Tabriz tonearm / Goldring 1006 cartridge. |

Hi soundzen,
Sorry to hear about your problems with the new Radius.
I measured a Xerxes/TMS belt and it is 580mm in diameter.
This bears no comparison with your measurements - are you sure you didn't measure half the diameter? which is nearly the 28cm you quote.
regards,
mat |

Hi Soundzen,
sorry to hear you have had a few problems with your Radius. It does seem you have had plenty of good advice form the members and it looks like your radius is starting back on the road to full recovery.
I am sure Touraj will reply to you with some very helpfull advice. Even if your Radius is completely, f***d, Mr T can have it back in full working order for you so stick with it and I am sure you will have a fantastic deck to suppliment your amp and speakers,
Regards

Hi soundzen,
That sounds like the same size allowing for belt stretch - I measured mine by wrapping a piece of nylon thread around the belt while still fitted to the turntable.

well, got my reply from mr T. back and im left with 2 options:
- 1 - either he sends the "new kit" made of a needed belt and power-box (those ares what i need most) and i give it to a portuguese turntable specialist to have a go at it!
- 2 - i send the complete TT in pieces by postal service for a assured facelift at roksan house!
| Quote: | | <<TOURAJ: it may be better to send it to us for a service and update or even upgrade>> ......... << If it is not possible to get the Radius to us for service, we can supply a service manual and service kit but this is not easy to implement properly and fully by an untrained person.>> |
but it all comes down to money, right? what will be the costs accumulated for such pampering? remember i only gave 450€ for this TT so im not willing to go over 100€ for a roksan calibration and update if necessary...
- secured FEDEX/UPS package shipment
- time spent by roksan specialist by the hour
- price for "new kit" and anything they will find necessary
- shipping back will be on my expense i guess
i know theres no comparation between these TT but between something vintage who needs many upgrades and a new TT plug&play i cant resist to fall for a new one like rega P3/24 or pro-ject rpm5.
basicly it all comes down to number$ - sad but true! _________________ Roksan K2 amp / Atlas equador superior IC / Roksan K2 cd / Roksan TR5 speakers / Qed silver anniversary XT cables / Rega P3 turntable / Roksan Tabriz tonearm / Goldring 1006 cartridge.

| Quote: | Dear Mr. Touraj:
Thank you so much for your e-mail but still i´m confronted with a dilemma and unfortunately its money related - i bought the radius 3 in second-hand for 450€ so i´m not willing to spend over 150€ to repair it - i must do my maths correctly and investigate the total amount of expenses if i would ship it over to Roksan...
What is my wallet facing? a new belt, a new power-box, calibration, cleaning, shipping and technical assistance by the hour?
I´m quite embarrassed to tell you about my short money budget for such a wonderful TT but when i bought the radius 3, i was told that it only needed a new belt and a new power-box, for it to work properly... as for the power-box, i can change the exterior plastic-box by an identical one with a mural-socket instead.
Technically speaking, the problem is that the belt slips upwards on its rotor when i turn ON the radius - then the belt ends up rubbing against the underside of the small platter - wobbling the main plate and on a long term, damaging my Tabriz arm and its Ortofon M2 Red cartridge.
Therefor i would like go for a new belt if you could kindly send it and let me know the cost so that i can pay you by credit card or do a bank account transfer like i do on eBay... PayPal is fine to!
All my best regards,
Alexa. |

Hi Alexa,
It comes down on how much you want to spend on your deck.
Just getting the bits and fitting yourself is the cheapest way, getting a local guy to fit the bits for you is the next option.
If you send it back to Roksan, sure there will be the freight costs but you will get a complete evaluation of what condition your deck is in. You will then be given a list of things you must do, things you can do and then possible upgrads. Obviously then it is up to you as to how much you are prepared to spend.
It might seem a little expensive at first but compared to the sound quality you will get for many years, its relatively cheap. As for going for a new version of the models you mention a Radius working properly will be far more rewarding,
Regards

that is a consideration (once i get the new belt) but i couldn't say that to Mr. Touraj... if none works, then yes - i will ship it to roksan _________________ Roksan K2 amp / Atlas equador superior IC / Roksan K2 cd / Roksan TR5 speakers / Qed silver anniversary XT cables / Rega P3 turntable / Roksan Tabriz tonearm / Goldring 1006 cartridge. |
